Bear Down 5K

I'm not trying to bore everyone with all of my running posts, but I am really excited about the run that I did this morning. I ran at the Bear Down and Run 5K and got another new personal best time of 26:51. This is almost a full minute faster than what I ran 2 weeks ago. I am really pleased with this time- especially considering it was a cross-country race and not a road race. I was the only woman in my age group, so I got the first place trophy. The picture that I have posted is of me after the race with my friend, Carrie. She and her family were fellow participants in the racing events, and they also did very well.

Welcome, Audrey Kate

This afternoon I was able to meet the newest member of our family- Audrey Kate Boyett. My cousin, Jessica, and her husband, Franklin, welcomed Audrey into the world around 9:30 last night. As you can clearly see, she is a beautiful little girl and we are happy to have her with us (finally).

Harvest Run 5K

I just returned home from running my first 5K of this fall season. I was a little worried because I had not run on a road since the Swamp Run last March. I have been running on the treadmill, though, so I knew that I was in decent shape. Well, I am pleased to report that not only did I achieve a new personal best time (about 27:42), but I also placed second in my age division. This is the first time that I have ever won anything for running. I know that it's silly, but I am so proud of my little trophy. Winning it actually makes me just want to train harder and run more. Brian and the kids didn't get to go because it was a night race (and the race took place during the FSU game), but they were all waiting for me when I got home. When I walked in they all yelled "Good job, mommy". How sweet!

Guitar Heroes

We're not big video game players around here. That being said, Brian brought a game home from work last weekend that we have all been enjoying. It's called Guitar Hero 5, and two players can "play" a guitar along with different rock-n-roll songs. Usually, the players are Brian and I while Owen and Olivia are the "back-up dancers". Tonight, however, Olivia took a guitar and joined the band. (Well, the guitar wasn't plugged in, but she didn't know that). Could this be the beginning of a lucrative career as a family band? Probably not, but it is still a lot of fun to play.

It's a Bird, It's a Plane...

...It's Super-Owen.

(There is no story behind this picture- I just really like it and want to share.)

August...ugh

Here's the deal with this picture: the look on Ava's face illustrates my feelings about the month of August, while the look on Olivia's face shows how I will feel when August is over. That's right, I strongly dislike August. It, along with January and February, are my least favorite months. Why is August so bad? Well, to begin with there is absolutely nothing fun that happens in August. Let's look at the facts: 1. There are no holidays 2. The fall TV season hasn't started yet- so there is nothing good on TV. 3. Football season hasn't started yet. 4. It's too hot to do much outside and even if it cools down, the mosquitos are still bad. 5. School and college start back, so all of the stress related to work returns. Although this stress will last all year, it is especially rough in August because you are coming out of a stress-free summer.
You may have noticed that I haven't updated my blog all month. The reason for this is that we have done nothing interesting all month. Since it has been such a while, I think I'll give a quick update on what everyone has been doing. I'll start with Brian. He has been working hard at Toys R Us. They are re-setting the store, so he has been focused on that. He is also itching for football season to begin and he has already joined several fantasy football leagues. I have been working hard at school and have been spending my weekends working on my dissertation. It is not going quickly- I actually think that it is going to take me forever to write this thing.
Olivia is still as sweet as ever. She got promoted to the "nursery 2" class at Sunday School. Gigi has been filling in for the regular teacher while she recovers from a medical procedure, so Olivia has done well in the new class so far. We'll see how things go when the regular teacher returns. After church last Sunday, I took Olivia to the local children's theater to see "Alice in Wonderland". Hannah and Ava came, too (that's where the picture on this post was taken). Although the play was too long and really weird, Olivia liked it and has been talking about it all week. I think that the Queen of Hearts made the biggest impression. I don't know what it is with Olivia liking the bad guys. And, yes, she still wants an "Ursula" cake for her birthday.
Owen is so easy-going. He adjusted to daycare in no time (it took Olivia over 3 weeks). He is just growing too fast. He has started identifying animals, and we are considering moving him to his big-boy bed. I'm trying to enjoy these baby days because I know that they'll be gone before I realize it.
Remy and Reecee (who we now refer to as the "thousand dollar dog" because of all the medical expenses) are also doing well. Reecee's wound is still not healing like we would like. The vet told my daddy that she could probably live with that big ole hole in her side. It's looking like she may just have to do that. The kids love her, and she is a good dog. I hope she continues to do well because I don't want to have to put her down.
I guess that covers everything that has been happening around here. I'm happy that August is all but over, and I hope that September brings more interesting news.

Another Year Begins

After a very short summer, school has begun once again. For me, this is more of a "beginning" to the year than is Jan. 1st. Along with new classes and students, I also make new resolutions that I sincerely hope to keep (like turning in my lesson plans on time). Even though the kids are too young to attend formal school, this is still a beginning for them, too because they get to move up to the next class in daycare. Speaking of daycare- you may recall that the kids' old daycare closed in May, so we have had to start at a new place. Owen had no problem adjusting, but Olivia has had a little bit of trouble. Thankfully, it is getting a little better for her every day. Here are some pictures of the kids on their "first" day of the new school year. I am also posting a picture of Bailey, who is riding to school with me again this year.
